Compared with standard PN†, hospitalised adults who received ω-3 fatty-acid enriched PN had a:

Omega-3 fatty acids can exert beneficial effects on the immune response8
A hypothetical model showing the postulated effects fish oil based omega-3 lipids on immune function.8 Fish oil based omega-3 lipids may lead to a more balanced immune response avoiding a hyper-inflammation and subsequent immune-paralysis. This may lead, perhaps through generation of resolvins, to a faster resolution of inflammation and recovery.8
